Carl’s Jr. has appointed their new brand president, Iwona Alter; she was previously the chief operating officer at The Habit Burger Grill, according to an announcement made earlier this week by the iconic quick-service company. The move is a reflection of the company’s efforts to elevate its leadership structure as it looks to increase its growth, improve experiences for guests and expand its presence as it faces growing competition across the entire quick-service industry.
Alter brings more than two decades of restaurant leadership experience to Carl’s Jr., including extensive operational, strategic planning, and franchising expertise across multiple quick-service and fast-casual concepts.
Before joining Carl’s Jr., she served as COO of The Habit Burger Grill, overseeing all aspects of operations, brand positioning, and growth strategy. Prior to joining the company, Amy Alter was in senior management positions with several companies such as Prime Hospitality, Culver’s, Rubio’s Coastal Grill, and Quiznos. Her experience with guest-focused concepts and improving operational efficiencies has positioned her to be able to effectively lead Carl’s Jr.’s day-to-day business.
As Brand President, Alter will supervise daily operations of the brand, the company’s brand strategy and its innovation pipeline as well as the company’s franchise relationships. She reports directly to the company’s CEO and will play a key role in shaping the brand’s next phase of growth, including menu evolution, digital engagement, and enhancements to the restaurant experience.
The name of Carl’s Jr. is synonymous with flame-grilled burgers, and that’s how they’ve been competing in a busy environment full of fast casual restaurants and other food-service providers to drive guest frequency, value and easy access. The company is dedicated to using refreshed store designs and marketing strategies to attract a younger audience that is focused on value.
With the appointment of Alter as COO, Carl’s Jr.’s leadership team stated that Alter’s operational excellence and strategic insight will positively impact not only short-term results but also the long-term health of the brand. In a statement to NRN, Carl’s Jr.’s public relations department said:
“Iwona’s deep experience in operations, franchising, and brand building aligns perfectly with Carl’s Jr.’s strategic priorities. Her leadership will help accelerate innovation, strengthen franchise partnerships, and elevate the guest experience across markets.”
Alter herself expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity ahead:
“Carl’s Jr. has an incredible heritage and a loyal fan base built on bold flavours and real food. I am honoured to take on this role and work with our incredible teams and operators to deliver even more value and excitement for our guests around the world.”
The quick-service category continues to evolve rapidly, with innovation in digital ordering, delivery partnerships, loyalty programs, and premium product expansions reshaping competitive dynamics. With the continued blending of full-service casual dining with quick service and fast casual concepts, executives with multi-segment experience, such as Alter, are being viewed as valuable to the business as they bridge operational excellence with creativity in building brands.
Moreover, Carl’s Jr. continues to face direct competition from numerous other fast-casual restaurant chains competing on the basis of burgers, and as companies with a larger product selection establish themselves in the market place, brands must demonstrate leadership and strategic execution abilities if they intend to remain relevant and continue to grow both through anticipated revenue streams from existing means of distribution and from new means of distributing products to the consumer.
