India’s food delivery industry is poised for robust growth in 2026, with leaders from major platforms such as Swiggy and magicpin pointing to customer experience, delivery speed, and value consciousness as the key drivers of the next phase of expansion.

According to Anshoo Sharma, CEO and Founder of magicpin, currently India’s third-largest food delivery aggregator, the sector’s growth will increasingly be shaped by broader merchant participation and value-driven consumer behaviour.

“We are scaling by onboarding a wide range of merchants, from single, standalone local restaurants to large brands and national chains, enabling them to participate competitively in the digital economy,” Sharma told PTI.

“By lowering entry barriers and improving unit economics for merchants, platforms like ours can help build a more balanced and sustainable food delivery ecosystem in 2026 and beyond.”

Sharma emphasised that food delivery is rapidly becoming a daily habit for students, office-goers and families, particularly those seeking affordability without compromise. He highlighted that expanding accessible options: from late-night campus orders to office lunches, is central to sustained engagement and value for users.

Echoing this view, Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy’s Food Marketplace, noted in the Economic Times that consumer lifestyles are evolving faster than ever:

“Meals today have to fit into tighter schedules, longer days and changing priorities. Sometimes it’s about comfort, sometimes about speed, and increasingly, it’s about feeling good about what you eat.”

Looking toward next year, Kapoor underscored the opportunity for delivery platforms to anticipate new use cases and everyday decisions, making deliveries faster when required, more balanced when needed, and consistently reliable for users who increasingly depend on food delivery as part of daily life.

The industry has already become a powerful economic engine in India. In fiscal year 2023-24, food delivery platforms generated an estimated ₹1.2 lakh crore in gross output, growing faster than the broader economy and creating more than 1.37 million direct jobs.

This growth and the sector’s deepening integration with daily consumer habits signals a maturing market where speed, value and experience are becoming as important as convenience itself.

The 2026 outlook reflects a shift from early-stage customer-acquisition tactics like deep discounting toward sustainable engagement built on service quality and value perception. Platforms are increasingly investing in features such as quicker delivery options, diversified restaurant partnerships, and personalised experiences to differentiate in a competitive market.

Globally, similar market dynamics are playing out as food delivery evolves beyond mere order fulfilment into lifestyle facilitation, catering not just to occasional cravings but to everyday meal planning, convenience needs, and consumer expectations for seamless service.

As the Indian food delivery landscape enters its next growth chapter, customer experience and value will be the twin pillars of sustainable expansion. It’s no longer enough to compete on speed alone; platforms that combine rapid fulfilment with meaningful value, for both users and merchants, will shape the industry’s future.
