Magicpin and Rapido, India, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at shaking up India’s food-delivery landscape, challenging the market dominance of long-time leaders Zomato and Swiggy.
Under the deal, Magicpin will integrate its restaurant network, reportedly spanning over 80,000 outlets, into Rapido’s food-delivery business, Ownly, which the ride-hailing firm launched in August 2025. In return, Magicpin gains access to Rapido’s delivery fleet in selected cities, strengthening its logistics reach.
A Rapido spokesperson told PTI that the company’s focus is to build “reliable, affordable, full-stack discovery and delivery solutions” for both merchants and customers, leveraging its existing “captain” (rider) network for last-mile delivery.
Why this could matter globally:
- The partnership represents a trend seen in many markets: ride-hailing companies using their existing fleet to expand into food delivery, thus leveraging synergies and lowering incremental cost.
- By bringing more restaurant partners under the Ownly platform, Rapido may be able to scale faster and compete more aggressively on cost and reach, especially in regions where Zomato and Swiggy are deeply entrenched.
- For global investors and operators, this move signals the rising importance of hybrid models that combine ride-hailing and food delivery, rather than purely platform-led models.
But disruption won’t come easy:
- The food-delivery business remains notoriously low-margin, and balancing rider payouts, delivery costs, and customer discounts will be a delicate act for Rapido + Magicpin.
- Building trust with consumers will be essential; Zomato and Swiggy already enjoy strong brand loyalty for speed, reliability, and variety.
- The partners will also need to manage relationships with restaurant chains, many of which already work with multiple delivery platforms, and may be wary of platform conflicts.
This alliance between Magicpin and Rapido could represent a meaningful inflection point in India’s—and potentially global—food delivery space. By marrying Rapido’s logistics with Magicpin’s merchant network, the two are positioning themselves to break into a market long dominated by Zomato and Swiggy.
