Celebrated chef, author, and Padma Shri awardee Sanjeev Kapoor has been recognized by the World Food Prize Foundation as one of the 2025 Top Agri-Food Pioneers (TAP), a global honour for his work bridging culinary excellence, nutrition awareness, and India’s agricultural landscape.
Kapoor’s recognition focuses not only on his work in kitchens or television studios, but on his ability to use food as a force for change. His initiatives, such as connecting local growers and nutrient-rich ingredients, advocating for sustainable food practices, and feeding millions through school-nutrition efforts, have been highlighted as part of the criteria for the TAP honours. The Foundation’s list highlights that Kapoor’s efforts over time reflect a blend of tradition, innovation, and food justice.
At the award event in Des Moines, Iowa (under the framework of the Borlaug Dialogue), Kapoor expressed his pride at representing India’s farmers, food culture, and nutrition empowerment.
- This places foodservice, hospitality, and culinary innovation within the larger agri-food ecosystem, connecting restaurant menus, ingredient sourcing, and nutrition outcomes in one narrative.
- For the Indian restaurant and food-brand industry, Kapoor’s recognition sends a signal: Brands and operators that align food excellence with nutrition, local sourcing, and sustainability can gain both cultural and global recognition.
- Initiatives such as his ‘Nutri Pathshala’ programme (which has reportedly served millions of nutrient-rich meals and engaged schools, farmers, and communities) demonstrate how hospitality leaders can partner with agriculture and social-impact stakeholders for broader reach.
Kapoor’s honor is more than a personal milestone; it reflects how the food industry narrative is evolving.
