Jack in the Box has appointed former Starbucks CFO Rachel Ruggeri to its board of directors, adding more than two decades of finance and restaurant-industry experience as the burger chain continues a broader overhaul of its leadership and governance structure.
Ruggeri was appointed as an independent director effective September 17. Her appointment was announced September 21 alongside the planned retirement of longtime director Michael Murphy, who will not stand for reelection at the company’s 2027 annual meeting.
Ruggeri spent more than two decades at Starbucks, joining the company in 2001 and moving through a series of finance leadership roles before becoming executive vice president and CFO in 2021. As CFO, she oversaw Starbucks’ global finance function and helped navigate the company through a period of significant transformation. She left Starbucks in March 2025.
Her experience extends beyond finance. Before becoming CFO, Ruggeri served as senior vice president of Global Retail at Starbucks, giving her exposure to the company’s worldwide company-operated and licensed store portfolio. She also previously served as CFO of Continental Mills. Ruggeri currently serves on the boards of medical technology company Stryker, where she chairs the Audit Committee, and pet-food company Open Farm.
