Yum! Brands has announced that Chris Turner will become its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025. Turner, who currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial & Franchise Officer, will succeed David Gibbs, who has led the company since 2020 and will retire at the end of this year.

The appointment marks a critical shift in leadership for the parent company of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and The Habit Burger Grill; one of the largest QSR conglomerates in the world, operating over 57,000 restaurants across 155 countries.

Chris Turner, who joined Yum! in 2019 after a long tenure at PepsiCo, is widely credited with strengthening the company’s financial foundation during one of the most disruptive periods in foodservice history. As CFO, he led Yum! through the COVID-19 pandemic with a sharp focus on digital investments, strategic acquisitions, and franchise growth.

Under his financial stewardship, Yum! Brands accelerated its digital sales, which now account for over 50% of total global system sales, and implemented scalable tech upgrades across markets.

Turner’s transition to the CEO role is significant not just for Yum!, but also for the broader QSR and restaurant ecosystem, especially for operators and brand owners looking to scale in a technology-led, franchise-first environment.

Turner has been a key figure behind some of Yum!’s most strategic acquisitions in recent years, including the purchase of Dragontail Systems (AI-powered kitchen order management), Tictuk (an Israeli conversational commerce platform), and Kvantum (AI-driven consumer insights). These additions have helped Yum! push the envelope in restaurant automation, delivery orchestration, and marketing personalization.

For industry leaders and investors watching the convergence of foodservice and tech, Turner’s appointment is being read as a vote of confidence in digital-first, analytics-powered QSR leadership.

Yum!’s success has long hinged on its ability to localize operations while scaling global systems, a model many emerging brands are trying to emulate.Ā

With over 98% of its units operated by franchisees, Turner’s leadership will likely continue to focus on equipping partners with tech and operational toolkits to drive profitability across diverse markets.
