On December 31, 2025, Indians rang in New Year’s 2026 with a food-related celebrating through Delivery Applications by ordering lots of comfort food products like Biryani, Pizza, and Burgers with increased demand in metro and mico cosmopolitan areas from across India in addition to smaller economies that are part of this region. A Swiggy report shows unprecedented volumes that highlight not only festive indulgence but the evolving role of digital food platforms in everyday life.

Biryani proved to be the country’s favourite New Year’s Eve dish by a large margin. Nearly 2.19 lakh biryani orders were placed on Swiggy before 7:30 p.m., and the platform recorded a peak of 1,336 biryani orders per minute just before 8 p.m. This incredible statistic reinforces the cultural significance of the dish on a broad scale.

By about 8:30 p.m., more than 2.18 lakh pizzas had been ordered, narrowly edging out burgers, which had roughly 2.16 lakh orders, indicating diverse palates and equal enthusiasm for Western comfort foods.

Indian sweets gained increasing popularity from late-night hours as more and more Indian sweets became popular. About 10:30 pm, the sweets with the highest orders included rasmalai, gajar halwa, and gulab jamun; these three sweet items represented a combination of modern delivery methods and traditional holiday and ritualistic celebrations.

Some individual ordering patterns were also noticeable in this data. An example of this is the individual who ordered 100 burgers at the same time in Bengaluru while another person who ordered 39 orders of kebabs, tikkas and other Goa specialties. In Gurugram, a partygoer placed an order of 18 boxes each of brownies and plum cake. Interestingly, a customer in Nagpur placed more than 93 orders on December 31st.

Swiggy’s data showed that both metropolitan hubs and smaller cities actively participated in the food delivery frenzy. The urban areas of Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and all major metropolitan areas display a surge in demand for festive food deliveries during evening hours. This indicates that many smaller cities throughout India are experiencing an increase in demand for festive food deliveries.
