Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the appointment of Vikaas Chawla as President for India and Southwest Asia, marking a significant leadership move as the company accelerates its regional expansion strategy.

The appointment, effective April 1, 2026, comes at a time when India continues to emerge as a key growth market for global hospitality brands. The newly created role underscores Hyatt’s sharpened focus on the region, where it is actively expanding its footprint across segments.

Chawla will be responsible for overseeing Hyatt’s operations, development, and overall performance across India and Southwest Asia, reporting into the company’s Asia Pacific leadership.

The leadership change is part of a broader realignment within Hyatt’s Asia Pacific structure.

Sunjae Sharma, who previously led the India and Southwest Asia region, will transition into an expanded role within Asia Pacific. In his new capacity, Sharma will relocate to Hong Kong, taking on wider regional responsibilities.

The move allows Hyatt to strengthen its leadership bandwidth both at the regional and market levels, as it scales operations in high-growth geographies.

Chawla brings close to three decades of experience spanning the food services, beverages, and consulting sectors.

Prior to joining Hyatt, he served as Managing Director and CEO of Compass Group India, where he led one of the country’s largest institutional food services businesses. His earlier career includes a long tenure at The Coca-Cola Company, where he held multiple leadership roles across India and international markets.

He has also been associated with entrepreneurial ventures, including founding a health-focused beverage brand, adding a consumer-centric perspective to his leadership profile.

Hyatt’s decision to appoint a dedicated president for India and Southwest Asia aligns with its ambitious growth plans in the market.

The company currently operates over 50 hotels in India and has outlined plans to significantly expand its presence in the coming years. The focus spans multiple brand segments—from luxury and upper-upscale to lifestyle and select-service offerings—reflecting evolving traveller preferences.

India remains one of the fastest-growing hospitality markets globally, driven by strong domestic travel demand, infrastructure development, and increasing interest from international travellers.

With Chawla at the helm, Hyatt is expected to further strengthen its market-level execution, particularly in areas such as development partnerships, brand expansion, and operational performance.

The role will involve close collaboration with owners, developers, and stakeholders across the region, as the company continues to scale its asset-light growth model.

As Hyatt advances its next phase of growth in India and Southwest Asia, the leadership transition positions the company to deepen its presence in a rapidly evolving market.
