Chipotle Mexican Grill has opened its 1,500th Chipotlane, marking a major milestone for the drive-thru format that has become central to the fast-casual chain’s restaurant development strategy.

The milestone location opened in Bradenton, Florida, on September 29, as Chipotle continues to expand a format designed specifically for customers picking up orders placed digitally. The company said it has added 500 Chipotlanes in less than two years, accelerating the rollout significantly since the format was introduced in 2018.

Chipotlanes were developed as dedicated lanes for prepaid digital orders, allowing customers to collect food without entering the restaurant. The model gained additional importance during the pandemic as restaurant operators invested heavily in contactless ordering, pickup and off-premise infrastructure.

Nearly a decade after its introduction, Chipotle says the format continues to outperform its traditional restaurant model. According to the company, Chipotlane locations have consistently generated higher volumes and returns than restaurants without the format, making them the preferred format for new restaurant development.
